Weekend Fun- Dr. Oz and Gwinnett County Fair

Another weekend filled with jam packed fun with my girls!  I love these moments spending quality time with them because tomorrow is never promise, so live every day like it's your last.

Since I work full time during the week, I miss a lot of precious moments of school events with my girls and I try to make it up to them on the weekends.  I may be tired and want to use my weekends to catch up on sleep but I want to make sure I spend my quality time with them.

Hopefully within a year when my job relocates I'll be 100% financially independent so I can be with my girls a lot more.  I hate seeing them grow up so fast and missing out on a lot of events happening in their lives.

This past weekend, the girls and I headed downtown Atlanta to drop in and see Dr. Oz speak at the Hilton Hotel.   We only caught the first 5 minutes of him speaking since the ballroom was filled up to the max which left us standing in the back.  We couldn't take just standing there for 90 minutes so the girls and I left to head to IKEA to pick up bedding for our beds.  There were local bloggers at the Dr. Oz event that stayed and had a chance to meet Dr. Oz in person, I could have too but it was too late for me to get on the media list, maybe next time.

After scrambling around IKEA feeling like cattle bunched in together due to a huge crowd of people shopping for home design goods, we sat and ate lunch there, purchased our bedding, and then proceeded to attend the Gwinnett County Fair.

It has been a tradition for us to attend the county fair when it comes into town.  My girls now looks forward to riding the more grown up rides instead of the kiddie ones.  They kept wanting me to go on the fast rides with them but this momma doesn't do fast rides, rides that goes upside down, or roller coasters- yes I'm no fun.

I love the aroma of funnel cakes, corn dogs, and chili cheese fries filling the air!  I did good by not purchasing any fair foods since I ate at IKEA before we arrived, but it was very tempting.

What I also love about the fair is visiting the farm animals in the stables.  Local farmers brings their live stock like sheep and cows to see if their animals are Best in Show to win prizes.  The girls and I didn't sit down to watch but we did watch a milking cow class.  We were shown how cows were milked and how cows has a baby every year to help continue to supply milk.  Cows as young as 4 years old starts having babies and they stay pregnant for 9 months, which means they have a baby every year- that is news to me.

The girls and I also visited a couple of other exhibits, a petting zoo and also a monarch butterfly exhibit.

I really loved walking into the butterfly exhibit and feeding the butterflies- they're very beautiful and have amazing bold colors and exotic designs.  I was curious as to how the owner of the butterflies travel with them and how she catch them to travel to different fairs and she told me at night the butterflies flies to the top of the net to go to sleep and she catch them all then.  If she is traveling far, she freezes the butterflies and they go into hibernation- hmm that's news to me too.

We spent several hours at the fair but once nightfall hit and the teens started arriving, it was time for us to head home.

If you're in the Atlanta Metro area, make sure to attend the Gwinnett County Fair.  There are pageants, magic shows, circus shows, rides, exhibits, and so much more!  Fair is from September 11th-21st.

How was your weekend?

  2. This mom doesn't do fast rides or roller coasters or things that spin! :) Looks like a wonderful fun-filled Saturday - Ikea, the fair and Dr. Oz all in one day - what's not to love, love, love!

P.S. I think you should do a tutorial for bloggers on how to get on a media list - just sayin - I would love to know more. :)

    1. Yeah my Saturday sure was jammed packed with lots of fun!

In regards to getting on a media list it is all about getting on PR's radar. Also, there is a local ad company here in Atlanta that works with bloggers to attend events. I found out about this agency too late and will go to other events they're hosting next time. I learned about this agency through other local bloggers.

My weekend? The kids and I have been sick as dogs. Scott is the last man standing. While the kids are getting better, I seem to be getting worse, so I'm headed to the doctor in a few hours...

  7. Dr. Oz is one of my favorites. He offers lots of practical tips that will support total wellness. I like that he's not a pill pusher and supports natural remedies. I didn't get up to Gwinnett much when I was in Atlanta. The traffic on 85 ...omg

    1. That's what I like about him too, getting healthy the natural way. 85 traffic is terrible and I try to avoid it!

Yeah, you should go to the fair, I know Pookah would love it! I can't wait to read and see your photos!
