First Time Experience at iFLY Atlanta: Is it Worth it?

First Time Experience at iFLY Atlanta: Is it Worth it?

Summer break has already started over in my household, and we've been relaxing and enjoying all this downtime.

During the school year, it had all of us running around, waking up at 5 am and down for the night at 11 pm during the week.  So, this break is very much needed.

With my girls getting older, it's not hard to keep them occupied and not catch a case of boredom. They know how to keep their own selves active and take the lead.  I just sit back and ask them what they want to do for the day.

Michelle and her friends came up with a summer bucket list of things to do this summer, for example, go swimming, beach vacation, dine out, visit amusement parks, etc. Of course, the person who does the most from their list wins after the summer break.

Win what?  I'm assuming bragging rights.

When Michelle told me about her summer bucket list, I thought it was a great idea until she said to me about one of the things she wanted to accomplish on her list.

She wanted to go skydiving!  Yes, jump out of airplane-type skydiving!!!

No way!  First of all, Michelle is too young to be doing that; plus, my nerves are too bad, and I would have a panic attack! Second, I love her adventurous spirit, but there is another way that she can go skydiving without free-falling out of a plane.

I remember passing by an indoor skydiving place whenever I visit The Battery Atlanta.  The location is called iFLY Atlanta, making the dream of flight a reality with indoor skydiving in a safe and fun environment.

Going through the iFLY Atlanta website, it seems like it would be a safe place to skydive since you have an instructor with you the whole time. However, I can see something going wrong; let's say the air pressure stops working in midflight.  But, fingers crossed, that never happens.

On the website, you book a time and day of when you would like to visit.  Also, you decide how many flights you would like to take, starting with 2 flights per person at $85.  Very pricey!

I highly recommend booking online because iFLY sale out quickly, and use Groupon to save money.

Both Michelle and Lauren wanted to do it, so I booked two flights for them each.

Also, I completed the flight waiver online, so I wouldn't have to do it at iFLY Atlanta.

On the day of the girls' indoor flight experience, we checked in, the girls got weighed, and we were presented with a first-time flyer's package deal. It consisted of a helmet covering the whole face, flying higher in the tunnel, downloadable pictures, and videos for an extra 40 dollars each.  I did their deal.

So with the girls' flights and adding on the first-time flyer's deal, I spent like $300!!!!  Expensive!  After paying that much, I hope it will all be worth it.

My daughters were in a group with other flyers, and they all got together and put on their skydiving gear and got instructions about their flights.

Each flight is timed, with an instructor holding and directing the flyers the whole flight.  The instructors have such a fun spirit, making sure everyone has a thrilling time.

After everyone did their flights, they are presented with a personalized flight certificate.

I asked the girls what their thoughts were and would they do it again?

Lauren said she enjoyed it; however, Michelle, who wanted to do skydiving initially, said she didn't like it because it hurt her body.  Due to her flight gear being too loose, it made her skin hurt.

Now, I don't think that was the fault of iFLY; Michelle was wearing her shorts and thin short sleeve shirt underneath.  According to iFLY rules, you must wear comfortable clothes under the gear.  Maybe if she had worn leggings, her experience would have been better.

I think iFLY is an excellent place for first-timers to get a feel of what skydiving is like.  Plus, no need to worry about the weather since everything is done indoors.

Now, I wonder what Michelle has next on her summer buck list?

  1. Sounds like a fun experience, but I am sorry to hear Michelle didn't enjoy it. I like that they are selecting their own adventurous things to do. Kids are so creative these days.
