Paula’s Choice 1% vs 2% BHA Exfoliate: Which Is Best for You?

Paula’s Choice 1% vs 2% BHA Exfoliate: Which Is Best for You?

As many of you know, Paula's Choice is one of my favorite skincare brands. Honestly, I haven't come across a product from them that I don't like. That's why they remain at the top of my "Holy Grail" of skin care products.

Well, I just found out some huge news from the brand!

Paula's Choice bestselling exfoliate liquid toner, Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliate, now has a BHA strength made for you!

Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 1% BHA Gentle Exfoliating Gel Toner is suitable for people with sensitive skin and redness, including those with rosacea-prone skin.

Both exfoliants help:

  • Unclog and shrink enlarged pores
  • Smooths and evens skin tone
  • Lightweight, which absorbs quickly into the skin

Even as an adult, I still suffer from acne and breakouts, plus suffer from dark marks.

When it comes to Paula's Choice exfoliates, my skin is smoother, and dark marks fade with continued use. I see improvements after one day of use and clearer-looking skin after one week.

For Those Wondering what a BHA Exfoliate is?

BHA, or beta-hydroxy acid, is an oil-soluble exfoliant that penetrates deep into pores. This helps unclog pores and reduce excess oil, making it beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

BHA has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and irritation, making it suitable for sensitive skin types as well.

It gently exfoliates the skin's surface, promoting cell turnover and revealing smoother, more even-toned skin underneath. Plus, it can help reduce breakouts and improve the appearance of dark marks over time.

Overall, incorporating a BHA exfoliant into your skincare routine can lead to clearer, healthier skin with regular use.

Instead of using facial scrubs that can damage your skin barrier, use a BHA exfoliant.

How to Use Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 1% BHA Gentle Exfoliating Gel Toner

The 1% BHA Gentle Exfoliating Gel Toner contains salicylic acid and allantoin, making it more suitable for acne-prone skin.

After washing your face, you apply 1 to 2 pumps over your face and neck. You do not rinse it off. You can use your fingers or a cotton swab.

For those new to using BHA, I suggest using it every other day until your skin builds a tolerance.

When using it during the daytime, it is vital to use sunscreen.

Also, no need to use it twice in a day, just once.

Trying out the 1% BHA, I see no difference in the effectiveness. I think it works just the same as the 2%. The only difference is that one is a gel, the other is liquid.

The gel gives a more cooling feel when applied, instead of a wetness like the liquid. So, easier to apply to the skin with the 1% gel.

For those with sensitive skin, I highly recommend checking out Paula's Choice Calm Collection.

FYI, the new 1% BHA replaced the 1% BHA from Paula's Choice Calm collection.
