Have you heard the news? SpongeBob has a new movie coming to theaters this Christmas (in theaters December 19th) called The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and I attended the screening to share my thoughts with you all.
I'm not going to spoil it; however, I thought the movie was pretty ridiculous and all over the place. It was like watching brain rot. But hey, that's what SpongeBob is all about, pure goofiness and potty humor.
I brought Lauren with me to watch, since she is a huge SpongeBob fan as well, and she enjoyed the movie and thought it was a step up from the 2nd and 3rd films.
The SpongeBob theatrical releases include:
- The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004)
- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)
- The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2020)
- The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (2025)
I was surprised to see that Ice Spice and Regina Hall made a surprise celebrity appearance in the film. And even Ice Spice has a song in the movie.
But maybe I shouldn't be too surprised, since each film features a known actor making a guest appearance.
While I found the movie to be silly, it wasn't intended for me; it was aimed at a younger audience.
And with SpongeBob being around for so many years, fans will appreciate the nostalgia of their childhood while bringing their own kids to laugh together.
There is adult humor in the film, but it'll go over the kids' heads, while the adults will have a bit of a chuckle.
So, see it if you're a SpongeBob fan and enjoy silly types of movies.
By the way, did you know we met the voice actor for Squidward years ago? Check it out here.
