Mixed Feelings: My Experience at the ATL Comic Convention 2025

Louida Martin from Product Review Mom holding a snake at ATL Comic Convention

I debated whether to write about my experience at the ATL Comic Convention since it wasn't up to par with my previous years' experiences.

But I'm known for my honest reviews, sharing the good and the bad. So, I decided to share why the convention felt lacking.

After attending two major conventions, MomoCon and Southern-Fried Gaming Convention, my experience at the ATL Comic Convention felt underwhelming.

My primary convention activity is attending panels; none of this year's panels grabbed my attention.

I was disappointed not to see my favorite improv comedy show, Penguin Knife Fight, and again, my favorite funk band, Raspberry Pie, wasn't there either.

Could it be that the convention keeps changing its dates, making previous guests unable to attend?

Last year, the convention was in the winter; this year, it returned to summer like previous years.

They should keep it as a winter convention since it will not compete with heavy-hitters like MomoCon, Southern-Fried Gaming Convention, and Dragon Con.

Also, did ATL Comic Convention rebrand?

I remember the ATL Comic Convention used to be the Atlanta Comic Con. Could there be new management?

Also, the celebrity guests this year weren't anyone I was interested in.

However, Lauren got to meet and get an autograph from Cole Sprouse, one of her favorite childhood actors from The Suite Life of Zach & Cody.

I quickly chatted with Cole and asked him what new projects he was working on. He told me he is working on a major film (the details he couldn't share) and some indie films.

Also, Cole mentioned he was surprised his show, The Suite Life of Zach & Cody, is still playing on the Disney Channel since he filmed it over twenty years ago.

Lauren also mentioned to me that, unlike in previous years, there wasn't a video game room this year, which disappointed her.

Holding snake at ATL Comic Convention

Not all were bad at the convention. I did like the reptile exhibit and was able to hold a snake. The snake I had, named Oreo, is a rescue and was very docile and cute. I used to not be a fan of snakes, but now I don't mind holding them.

Besides meeting her favorite childhood actor, Lauren enjoyed the anime screening room. She had us sit there watching several episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

So here are the Pros and Cons of ATL Comic Convention:

Pro

  • Lauren meets her favorite childhood actor, Cole Sprouse
  • Spacious venue
  • Loved the reptile exhibit
  • Discounted tickets for returning guests
  • The event was organized with helpful volunteers

Con

  • No interesting panels
  • The ATL Comic Convention app kept refreshing when adding events to my schedule
  • Too much focus on celebrity guests
  • No video game room
  • Convention ending at 7pm
  • Too many emails from them to the point of spamming
  • No huge banner outside the venue to say it is the ATL Comic Convention

So, will I be in attendance next year?

I'll give ATL Comic Convention another chance. But if I'm underwhelmed again, it may be my last.
