Celebrating 20 Years of Fandom Fun at MomoCon 2025

Another MomoCon is in the books! And for the year 2025, MomoCon was celebrating its 20th year! Whoa, that's a whole lot of fandom fun!

Celebrating 20 Years of Fandom Fun at MomoCon 2025

While at MomoCon, my phone started sharing images of my girls and me attending this four-day event since 2018. Yep, this is my seventh year going to MomoCon.

Since attending this massive four-day anime, gaming, comics, and animation event on Memorial Day weekend every year, it has gotten bigger and better! There's never a dull moment; my oldest daughter and I always look forward to attending yearly. (Michelle stopped going with us a couple of years back, so it became me and Lauren's thing.)

This year almost didn't happen since Lauren started a new job and wasn't sure if she would get one of the days off to attend. She put in a request to get Saturday off, but it was denied. However, her job honored her request once her work schedule was available.

Since Lauren is also in school, we could only attend one day of the con. One day is better than no day since we haven't missed MomoCon since we started attending back in 2018, even during Covid when Lauren attended MomoCon online on Animal Crossing.

Going to MomoCon for one day made us feel we missed so much. Trying to see it all felt so rushed.

I downloaded the MomoCon app and added a full schedule of activities for us; however, it was hard to attend all of them since many of the events' times overlapped.

However, Lauren's most important task was to attend the vendor hall, which we had to speed through since we had paid tickets to attend the Maid Cafe in the evening.

Vendor Hall at MomoCon

Every year at the vendor hall, I notice a popular item the vendors like to sell. This year, it was Labubu dolls from Popmart—cute yet creepy little rabbit monster dolls. Those viral toys are everywhere! I'm surprised Lauren is not into them, but she likes last year's popular toy, Sonny Angel.

Dad and Mom voice actors of Bluey

Our highlight of MomoCon was meeting the voice actors from the show Bluey, the Dad Bandit (David McCormack), and Mom Chili (Melanie Zanetti).

When we arrived at MomoCon, our first stop was seeing the two voice actors chatting about their time on the hit kid's TV show.

At first, I didn't understand when Lauren would watch a show meant for little kids until I saw the sea of adult fans who loved it and expressed how much it helped them during challenging times, bringing joy to their lives.

When I noticed Lauren watching Bluey a couple of years back, I didn't understand why since my household doesn't have little kids.

But now I realize it was when she was feeling down, like starting a new school in the middle of high school, finding it hard to make friends, and going through the emotional and physical changes that older teens do. The show gave her a sense of calmness and peace.

Listening to people share their stories made me realize the impact of this show, and it brought me to tears. I'm grateful for a wholesome show that brings happiness to its audience.

Lauren mentioned to me that both voice actors seemed similar to their characters. She would love to meet with David McCormack because of his funny personality.

After the Bluey chat session, Lauren finished shopping at the vendor hall and went to the celebrity meet-and-greet area to meet David McCormack.

Lauren wore a Bluey shirt for MomoCon and wanted David McCormack to sign the back of her shirt.

She went to his booth and paid $50 for his autograph, and he even took a selfie with his autograph, even though taking a selfie with him was an extra charge.

How cool is that? That really made Lauren's day!

After meeting David McCormack, we went to the Maid Cafe.

Maid Cafe at MomoCon

The Maid Cafe was fun, with food, games, and dancing. However, I was disappointed with my Matcha drink; it tasted like watered-down milk. My onigiri with tuna wasn't the best, either.

I think I will pass on attending the Maid Cafe next year.

We loved attending the different panels. Lauren likes panels that discuss different anime and why the panelists enjoy them. She gets a different perspective on why someone likes a certain anime and learns about new ones to add to her list.

We also played some retro video games in the gaming hall, but we didn't stay long like we usually do since we attended several panels.

As I mentioned, MomoCon felt rushed trying to cram so much into our schedule. We should have started our day at 10am instead of getting there at 1:30pm. That was a big mistake! And we left MomoCon at 3am!

Let's just say Lauren was very tired, having to go to work on Sunday and only getting 4 hours of sleep.

Again, thanks, MomoCon, for an unforgettable experience! These memories we create I'll always cherish forever!
