Being a Tourist in My Own City: Educator's Open House Atlanta Recap

Hey Yall!  Have you been following along on Instagram of all I did this past weekend?  The girls and I played tourist in our own city visiting 3 of the Top Museums in Atlanta, World of Coca-Cola, Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Georgia Aquarium for Educator's Open House.

Remember the post I spoke about Educator's being able to visit all three museums free for a day to get a chance to explore these museum's educational field trip programming during the school year?

Well, this past Saturday was the day, and it was filled with teachers museum-hopping checking out what all places had to offer education wise.

Now, I'm no Educator, however, I'm thankful to World of Coca-Cola for hosting us at all 3, so we can have a fun day of learning as well.  If you remember last year the girls and I did Educator's Day, but this time around I didn't feel as rushed trying to cram in all three museums in one day, I had better planning to tackle it all.

World of Coca-Cola

For this year, we got there after 10 am, picked up our tickets and headed to World of Coca-Cola first.  We've been to World of Coca-Cola so many times; we lost count!  It's a fun place for people that are fans of the Coca-Cola brand and would like to know how everything got started.  The tasting room with sodas and teas from around the world is the biggest hit inside this museum; it's the first place the girls like to visit, then let all the carbonated drinks settle while we watch old Coca-Cola commercials in another room nearby.  Check out the Teacher Toolkit to ensure that school field trips to World of Coca‑Cola are educational as well as entertaining.

Center for Civil and Human Rights

Up next, Center for Civil and Human Rights.  Not a dry eye was inside.  This museum will profoundly impact you.  We have been there several times as well, and still, it fills me with so many emotions of all my people have gone through to fight for equal rights.  And it's not just African Americans fighting; it's also other nationalities, religions, women, LGBT, and more fighting still this day.  And the state that the world is in today, we're so racially divided, it's like we're stepping backward.  Will we ever overcome someday?

Georgia Aquarium

Lastly, on our last stop was Georgia Aquarium.  It looks like Georgia Aquarium is growing, a lot of construction is going on outside and in.  I wonder what they got coming?  But you know I'll share about it here.  Since Georgia Aquarium extended their hours, we were able to see every single attraction, and shows!  That's a first!

Three museums, all in one day, and we ended the night after 8 pm.  That's 9 hours of non-stop educational fun!  I need to pat myself on the back for hanging in there all day.  But I will say coffee helped towards the end of the night; I was feeling sleepiness kicking in.

If you're in Atlanta and want to visit all three museums, I highly suggest purchasing CityPass packet of tickets for the whole family to save a ton of money on passes to Atlanta's Top 5 museums around the city, not just the three museums we visited.

Have you ever visited these three museums?

  1. These three places all look great. I think I would have enjoyed the aquarium the most because of the animals...hello dolphins. It looks like ya'll had a great visit though.
