Hey Yall! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their loved ones. My family and I spent it cooking together, watching holiday movies, going out braving the crowds of Black Friday, also attended a Christmas play.
We had an eventful weekend spending quality time together enjoying each others company. This has become a tradition of ours, being together, just the four of us.
But Michelle is noticing something is different.
Last week, she came to me upset that all her friends either go away to visit family for the holidays or have extended family come to their house to celebrate.
Us, on the other hand, we're just always alone together during the holidays now. Michelle was sharing with me about all the stories I would tell her about when I was her age or younger I would spend the holidays at my grandmother's house with aunts, uncles, and cousins.
It breaks my heart that my family has a non-traditional way of celebrating holidays, but we do not have a relationship with the girls' living grandparents, and other extended family members we don't know them well.
I told Michelle that even though our family celebrations is just us four, we have each other. And know that once she and her sister Lauren become adults, start a family, our gatherings will extend with traditions changing with more family members coming together.
I showed Michelle my necklace with a snowflake charm I got from James Avery Artisan Jewelry I like to wear during the Christmas season and shared a little story about my Granny and the family traditions of visiting her house over the holidays.
I would love visiting my Granny, smelling all the delicious foods coming from her kitchen, going in her room playing dress up in her clothing and jewelry.
Granny knew how much I loved her beautiful wardrobe and jewelry sets so she passed some of her beloved items down to me, something that I'll always remember her by.
I told Michelle with this James Avery necklace; I want to do the same thing my Granny did for me, pass this chain down to her, so she'll always remember me during the holidays and beyond. And once I'm no longer on this earth, I'll still be close to her heart. And she can continue the tradition by passing it down to her children.
That put a big smile on Michelle's face, and she told me she's grateful to have me, her dad, and Lauren in her life. And with the precious James Avery charm necklace being handed down to her, she can hold onto the special memories of all the magical holiday moments we had together.
