Camp Nightmare

Hey Yall!  So, I had my 2nd ever camping trip, this time with Michelle and her 5th-grade classmates.  Last year, I went with Lauren, remember that?

The camping trip with Michelle and I wasn't going to happen initially due to Michelle's bad reporting of grades and behavior problems in class.  But, she got her grades up, controlled her talking in class, and I told her she could go on the trip.

This time around, I was better prepared and knew what to expect.  I warned Michelle that camping is not all fun and games hanging out with her friends all day, it's about teamwork, bonding with her classmates, and doing different tasks throughout the day.

What I said must have gone in one ear and out the other, she expected camping to be a 5-Star resort, relaxation inside her cabin all day.  No sweetheart, this is an educational trip, instead of learning in class, you're getting hands-on experience outdoors.

Michelle whined, complained, throwing fits!  My goodness, she was worst than me!

I told her we should have just stayed home and saved my money; now she got us out there hungry and cold.  And speaking of hungry, the food there was so disgusting!  It's like the cafeteria was serving food that was reheated several times with food being either stale or hard as a rock.  Last year, the food wasn't that bad, I wonder what happened?  Maybe the camp started cutting corners.  Whatever the case may be, still not acceptable.

Like I said before, our schedule for the three days at camp was packed with different activities.

Day 1- We had a Challenge Course, Two Hour Hike, and a Night Camp Fire.

You see, we did a whole lot!

Although both Michelle and I were moaning and groaning, getting mad at Mr. M and Lauren when they were texting us their delicious dinner plates they were having at the comfort of home, I loved I got to get some one-on-one time with Michelle.

Now, everything didn't go without a hitch.  Some of my group of kids are hard-headed!  Made me want to get a switch from the tree and whooped they behinds!  My goodness, do they have any home training at all?  Maybe they are overly excited to be away from their family for the first time?  But, whatever it is, it had me ready to go off on some kids!

And that's not all!

I was ready to go off on some chaperones too! 😡

There is this one mom that is the leader of the PTA, who be doing the most, think she is running things and had the nerve to disrespect Michelle.

Whenever I'm not looking, she would boss around Michelle.  Here are a couple of incidences:

Michelle and I both wore a backpack the whole time to have our personal belongings close to us.  I went to the bathroom while Michelle and her group were sitting down in a room with other chaperones while waiting to learn what the next activity would be.  This Heffa came to my child and told her to take off her backpack and put it down somewhere.  Michelle said no, I told her to hang on to her bag.  Then the Heffa had the nerve to roll her eyes at Michelle, then walked away.

Next thing this cow did when my back was turned, Michelle was getting up from the group to go to me because she was scared during the Night Hike.  The Heffa once again, came to my child told her to get back to her group, then pushed her.

You see y'all; it took every bit of me not to knock that Heffa out!  When it comes to my kids, I don't play!  I had to pray to the Lord above for me to calm down and not start fighting in front of these kids.

And another thing....

The Heffa and the guy chaperone in our group were using foul language amongst each other, loud enough for the kids to hear.  Plus, they were flirting with each other.

The Heffa has a husband, first of all, and both adults know better than to use profanity around the kids.  What they do at their homes is their business, but around other people's kids, they need to watch their mouths.

Please believe when I got back from the trip I told the principal about what all went down.

Oh yeah, another incident that went down during camp, some of the boys in their cabin got into a physical altercation.  One boy got his nose cut up.  LAWD!!!!!  Just imagine getting a phone call from school about your child has been hurt from a fight while away on a trip.  My heart would drop, with me turning white as a ghost.  After a call like that I would be in my car headed to camp to pick my child up.

This is why 5th graders are too young to go on overnight trips; they don't know how to act.  We were more mature during their age back in the days, but today's youngsters with the era of electronics and such, they are not as mature yet.

I'm glad that overnight field trips are over, for now.

Now, I'm at home fighting my nasty cold bug I caught during the trip.  OY! 😷

Have y'all ever been camping before?

  1. so glad my kids don't have these type of trips. My son won't be going because I need my food I would starve. I would probably be that mom that carries all my kitchen stuff like the portalbe stove and everything cause I am not here to play. These kids are off the chain which is why I don't do field trips to often and the parents.....the worse

    1. I don't understand, it seems like Michelle's school is the only one that does a overnight field trip. I was speaking to Lauren's old teacher and she was telling me it's becoming a liability risk, and school may stop doing these field trips.

These kids and parents are the worst!

  2. Oh my Miss Chaperone was asking for it! I’m so glad you made administration aware of these issues. If the adults are struggling maintaining good behavior no wonder the kids were acting out. Great parent call on chaperoning and not allowing her to go alone!

    1. Thanks Nona. I understand with the kids acting out, but adults, not acceptable at all. And that's why these kids are bad, they learn it from their parents.

  3. I agree fifth grade sounds too young for overnight trips without parents. That lady really tried it. She should be ashamed for picking on a child.

  4. I’ve been patiently waiting on this write up! Yea I’m not an outdoorsy person anyway so it would have been a hard pass for me and the big kid wouldn’t even bring it up as an option haha. But the little one might be on her own if she ever decides she wants to do this.
