Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza Review

I received this product for free to do a review.  All opinions are my own.

Last month I attended a couple of Health Food Expos to learn about clean eating.  In those Expos they also had gluten free foods for people to try out.  I'm noticing a lot of brands advertising gluten free foods and I never understood what gluten free was all about.

I don't have any food allergies and neither does the rest of my family but it's good to learn about how others can't eat all the foods that we're able to and now companies has food options for their dietary needs as well.

According to Wikipedia, Gluten Free means:

A gluten-free diet (GF diet) is a diet that excludes foods containing gluten. Gluten is a protein composite found in wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye and triticale. A gluten-free diet is the only medically accepted treatment for celiac disease.

I didn't know what to expect while tasting gluten free foods and I must say that a lot of the foods I've tried is pretty tasty and still flavorful.  Some gluten free foods has a taste like it's missing something but overall you really can't tell the difference.

Since I've been in a gluten free kick lately, I decided to join in BzzAgent's  Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza campaign.

What I got were 1 free coupon to buy Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza and several $2 off coupons to buy some more.  Also a pizza cutter.

Here is more information about Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza:

Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizzas aren’t just for pizza lovers looking to eliminate gluten from their diet. Sure, they happen to be gluten free, but they’re first and foremost great-tasting pizzas! Plus, they’re the first nationally distributed, multi-serve frozen pizzas made without gluten.
  • The dough is rolled out extra thin to create a signature Freschetta® Thin & Crispy crust
  • When Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizzas went head-to-head in a taste test with the leader in this category, 88% of people preferred the taste of Freschetta® over the other pizza
  • They’re certified gluten free by the Celiac Sprue Association, the largest non-profit celiac support group in America
The pizza's comes in two varieties:

  • Four Cheese Medley — An airy, crispy crust is covered edge-to-edge in 100% real mozzarella, savory asiago, rich fontina and hearty parmesan
  • Signature Pepperoni — Despite the delicate crunch of the flaky, gluten free crust, it stands up to a substantial spread of real pepperoni, all-natural mozzarella and sauce made from vine-ripened tomatoes

My Review

Since I don't eat pork, I used my free coupon to buy the Four Cheese Medley.
For my first try of cooking the pizza, I burnt it.  The pizza is so thin that if you don't watch it cook carefully you can burn it easily.  The instructions says to cook it on 450 degrees for about 12 to 15 minutes but I think that's way too high for such a thin pizza.

Michelle and I ate the pizza burnt and it still tasted good.  Lauren doesn't like pizza period so she didn't have any.

While my girls were spending the week with their grandmother, I decided to give this pizza another try.  I used my $2 off coupon to buy another one and also this time I purchased a pizza pan and pizza cutter (I forgot that I already gotten a pizza cutter from BzzAgent).

I watched the pizza cooking like a hawk!  This time the pizza came out good, but did needed to cook a little bit more in the middle but I didn't want to take any chances of it burning again.

Mr. M and I enjoyed the pizza together.  The taste is just the same like any other pizza but the pizza is really thin.

Is Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza Worth a Try?

Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza is good for anyone, not just people that can't have gluten.  I will say that temperature suggestion on the package is way too high to cook for such a thin pizza.  Other than that, no complaints and I see myself buying it again.

Have you tried Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizza before?

  9. I like thin pizzas because the crust is crunchy - especially when it's not skimpy on the sauce. I've been familiar with gluten free products, and sometimes, they do have a flavor like something is missing. It's good to know that the gluten free pizza still has some taste.
