Another year of classic gaming fun at the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo! (Check out our previous years)
About Southern-Fried Gaming Expo
The Southern-Fried Gaming Expo (SFGE) is a three-day (Friday through Sunday) gaming convention created for fans of all things gaming. It takes place at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel and Cobb Galleria Convention Center in Atlanta, GA. The expo features more than 400 full-sized arcade games, pinball machines, and console systems. Attendees also enjoy tabletop gaming, browsing vendors, listening to special guest speakers, watching wrestling matches, participating in tournaments, and much more!
Unfortunately, I couldn't attend all three days because Lauren was working over the weekend. Still, we managed to attend on the opening day, Friday.
It had its pros and cons, attending on the first day.
Pros
- Fewer crowds
- Vendors were fully stocked with merchandise
- Laid-back atmosphere
Cons
- Friday had fewer hours since the event started at 3 pm and ended at midnight
- Not many events are happening until Saturday and Sunday.
- With fewer hours on Friday, there is less time to shop at the vendor hall.
We got to the expo right when it opened. We obtained our 1-day badge and began exploring the entire expo to see what it had to offer.
First, we checked out all the old computing systems in the computer festival room, which is my favorite. It always amazes me to see how far we have come with computers and how much they have made our lives easier.
I remember when I was a teen, I had my first Compaq laptop. During those times, I would hop on AOL, chat online with friends, design my MySpace page, do my homework, and so on.
Due to my close connection with my laptop, it inspired me to pursue a career as a graphic designer. After high school, I attended college to begin learning coding, but I didn't complete the program since college became too expensive.
However, to this day, I still have a close connection with computing because I'm a full-time blogger. Having a computer and access to the Internet helped me build a career.
After browsing and playing computer games, we headed to the vendor hall to do a little shopping, or more specifically, Lauren did all the shopping since she is the gamer in the family.
When Lauren finished her shopping, we played several retro games like pinball machines, arcade games, and old gaming consoles.
To finish off the night, we attended a comedy show.
I must say, the show was vulgar! I wish there was a warning that it was for a mature audience only. Granted, Lauren and I are adults, but children were present, and their parents had to quickly remove them from the room.
Welp, another fun year at the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo is in the books!
It is a much more laid-back convention compared to the other conventions we attend, such as MomoCon and Anime Weekend Atlanta.
If you're a lover of all things gaming, you will love attending the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo!
