America’s First 5G-Powered Smart City, Peachtree Corners Georgia

This week, Peachtree Corners, Georgia at City Hall celebrated the nation's first autonomous mobility and smart city living lab.  And I got a chance to attend and see all the exciting technology innovations.

Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners, powered exclusively by True Mobile 5G from Sprint, enables companies to prove out emerging technologies in a living environment with smart city infrastructure, next-generation connectivity, and real-world conditions.

The centerpiece of the lab is a 1.5-mile test and demo track which provides a real-world environment to prove out emerging Internet of Things (IoT)/connected device technologies – from self-driving machines and services, cloud robotics to countless more applications that will redefine the way people live and businesses operate into the future. Additional infrastructure includes a network operations center, smart poles, DSRC units, dedicated fiber, and a 25,000 square-foot technology incubator. Kia's HabaNiro Car

Kia Motors invited my auto group to join in on the festivities, and also check out their fully electric car before we all headed to lunch together.

What was impressive to me was seeing Kia's HabaNiro, an electric all-wheel-drive concept car with a range of more than 300 miles!

The inside look of the car is the coolest with stand-out firey red seating with metal flooring and bright lighting.  Plus, butterfly wing doors made the car a statement piece.  I can see all the hipsters driving around this incredible looking car.

Unfortunately, since this car is a prototype, it's not available for consumer sales.  However, Kia created the HabaNiro as a conversation starter to see what consumers think about it and get ideas for future production.  With the HabaNiro, consumers are getting a glimpse of future mobility.

Also, Kia's new mid-size SUV, Telluride was out on display with autonomous technologies as well.

Another innovated technology I was introduced to was from Local Motors's Olli, the world's first co-created, self-driving, electric shuttle, that transport guest. (Seats up to 8 people)

Olli is the perfect ride to get you to and from where you want to go.  It's spacious, smooth, comfortable, with great window views all around.  The vehicle works well for college campuses, hospitals, senior communities, and getting around in cities.  I hope to see more of Olli in the future.

My main focus was on cars while I was at the event, and seen Mercedes-Benz showcasing their MBUX, basically, a smart car system that creates an emotional connection between the vehicle, driver, and passengers.

Auto brands can come to Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners to test out their autonomous vehicles in a real-world setting before the start fleet production. Also, the lab is open to companies working on their new technology during the design and testing phase.

I was quite surprised that the suburbs of Atlanta would have all of these advanced technologies; I was expecting it to start in a major city like Atlanta.

It's mind-blowing how far technology has gone throughout the years advancing our lives.  We now get information quicker and being able to stay connected with the world around us.  It's like, "What will they think of next?"
