Hey Yall!  I wanted to share with you a bit more about our last minute trip to Orlando, how I was able to save money booking our trip and some of the things we did during the day in half there.

So, LEGOLAND invited my family and me to preview their newest event about a week before the event was supposed to start.  I knew there was no way in heck we were going to do an 8-hour drive after doing a 6-hour one to St. Augustine two weeks prior, so if we're going to LEGOLAND we're catching a flight!

How I Saved Money on My Last Minute Trip to Orlando

Flying last minute can be expensive, even though the flight from Atlanta to Orlando is only an hour. However, here's a little secret, the best day to buy plane tickets is on Tuesday.  I have no idea why, but the cost of flights are cheaper that day.  Flying on Tuesday and Wednesday is more affordable as well, so make a note of that.

LEGOLAND's event was on Saturday, so my girls and I flew to Orlando Friday afternoon, and left Orlando back to Atlanta first thing in the morning Sunday.

And yes, I had to fly an airline I despise, Spirit Airlines, because it was the cheapest and flew Frontier going back home.  Both are, "You Get What You Paid For," carriers.

But I got to admit something; flying Spirit wasn't bad this time around.  It was a decent flight with no problems; seating was even roomy.  I made sure to pay for our bags online, instead of at the airport to avoid the added fees.

Now, Frontier, on the other hand, had the girls and I feeling like squished sardines in their tight seating.  I didn't have a chance to pay for our bags online, so I was hit with added fees for purchasing at the airport.

Both are no thrills airlines, so only use them for short distance flights.

By the way, I purchased my plane tickets on Priceline, which has been the best way for me to save money on flights, including hotel stays.

Speaking of hotels, booking on Priceline, I scored a great deal with the resort I stayed at.

Here is what I did.

Priceline offers Express Deals (saving up to 60%) that you don't know what you're booking until you pay for it.  Before you pay, you will know how many stars the hotel will be and ratings.  I do deals like this 85 percent of the time when booking hotels.  First of all, you save a lot of money this way, plus you discover hotels you may not have heard of and may end up liking.

I saw on Priceline's Express Deal in Orlando a 4 1/2 star hotel with 95 rating for only a hundred bucks a night; I quickly hopped on that deal.  I paid, and it revealed I would be staying at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort!  This resorts regular price is well over $200 a night!  I scored huge on this one!

Also, I did the Express Deal on my car rental too, saving me about 30%.

I'm telling ya, Priceline is the truth!  They always have fantastic deals!  Their site is my go-to when it comes to my travels.

Another thing I like to share is right now is the slow season in Orlando, so deals are happening everywhere there, make another note of that if you want to plan a trip before spring break.

Our Hotel, Rosen Shingle Creek Resort Was Amazing!

The Rosen Shingle Creek Resort is a gorgeous resort!  It's like walking into a Spanish Palace ready to whisk you away to a blissful paradise.  The hotel's beauty hypnotized me; I forgot to take pictures of the grand entrance inside.

The resort is conveniently located to everything!  The airport, Universal Studios, Seaworld, and Disney World, this property is in one of the best-rated locations in Orlando, and I see why!  Friendly staff assures their guests enjoys their stay, clean and spacious rooms, so many restaurants to choose from, the list goes on!

So many amenities at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort that honestly you can stay at the resort and stay occupied the whole time.

While checking in, all my girls cared about was taking a dip in one of the resort's pools.

The weather in Orlando was quite mild, in the middle 60's, but the pools were heated keeping the girls warm while they were swimming their laps and playing water games in the pool.

Temperatures dropped quickly in the evening, and I wrapped swimming up, had the girls get dress, then headed off to Disney Springs for dinner and a stroll around the complex to check out all the shops and entertainment.

Evening in Disney Springs

Dinner of choice for the evening was at Paddlefish, formerly known as Fulton Crab House.  The restaurant is on a big stationary paddleboat overlooking the water and Disney Springs.  They serve American, as well as Seafood Cuisines.

I opted for a cheeseburger with fries, Lauren had a pasta dish, and Michelle had a snow crab meal.  We all enjoyed our meals, and do recommend eating there.

After dinner, we visited a few stores, checked out all the outdoor entertainment, then called it a night.

Following day, we took the hour drive to LEGOLAND!  Read all about it here.  We stayed at LEGOLAND from open to close; we had a blast!

Universal Studios CityWalk is More for Older Crowds at Night

We didn't want the fun to end after our day at the amusement park, so the girls and I headed to Universal Studios CityWalk.

It's been a few years since visiting Universal, so we've forgotten how the CityWalk would be.  While there, all it was, was a bar scene, and we were not feeling being around all the older crowds.  We quickly got dinner at The Cowfish, then headed back to our hotel.

For a day in a half, we managed to do a lot.  I made sure to keep it moving and pack in as much as we can, getting our moneys worth with our short getaway.

I can't wait for our next trip!  Next time of course with Mr. M with us.  Our next planned trip is in April for spring break, can you guess where we'll be flying too next?
