4 Ways To Improve Your Health This Summer

4 Ways To Improve Your Health This Summer

Summer is the perfect time to focus on improving your health. With longer days and warmer weather, there are plenty of opportunities to get outside and get active.

If you have kids, this is especially important because it means that you are staying strong and healthy for them, but it also means that they will learn by example and pick up on your great habits!

Summertime, to me, means fun. We run around and explore different areas, sweat a lot, and have a blast as a family. There’s no shortage of exercise for us during the summer months between exploring new cities and going to the pool.

But, exercise is not the end-all, be-all when it comes to health. Here are a few other ways to improve your health this summer as you are having fun with your family:

Protect your Skin with Suncreen

Protect Your Skin With Sunscreen

Wearing sunscreen should be a crucial part of your everyday skincare routine, no matter if it’s summer or not. Even if you don’t have a skincare routine, you shouldn’t step out of the house without applying your SPF if you want to maintain healthy and youthful-looking skin.

Do remember, though - not all sunscreens are created equal. Make sure to choose the best SPF for your skin type – with sunscreens catered towards both dry and oily skin, there are so many available on the market these days!

Besides, you want to consider reef-friendly sunscreens and what chemicals are added to the sunscreen. Typically, mineral-based sunscreens are a better option, but you still need to do your research on each individual option and brand.

While you are out having fun with your family, make sure you do not forget to re-apply every so often!

Reduce Stress

Reduce Your Stress

When most people think about health tips, stress reduction is not the first thing that comes to mind.

In my opinion, I think it is one of the most important things to focus on because stress accumulates in the body, not only stressing your mind out, but it puts a lot of stress on your heart and other organs, too.

Stress can potentially throw you off your health game - it causes high blood pressure, headaches, poor sleep, and more. This is why it is so essential to remove it!

Take a look at your overall life and see where you can reduce your stress. Maybe this means that you need to outsource projects, or you need to focus on self-care.

For some, it also means that they need to declutter their home and get rid of built-up items that are causing additional stress.

One way to do this is by creating 2 piles as you go through your items: one to give away/throw away and one pile to sell.

After you sell your valuables, see what you have left to sell. Mercari, Poshmark, eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and other places such as those are great for random items and clothes, too!

Eat fresh food and eat local

Eat Fresh Food - And Eat Local

Summer is great when it comes to fresh food because there are so many fruits and vegetables that are now in-season, making them easier to find and more affordable.

Take advantage of this and make some delicious smoothies to get your daily fruit and vegetable intake in one quick, easy, and delicious serving.

Plus, it will help hydrate you, which is really important while you are on the go! This time of year makes eating healthy, wholesome foods so much easier, so experiment in the kitchen with new recipes that your body will benefit from.

When you are shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables, consider supporting your local farmers through farm shares, farm stores, or farmers' markets.

This is a great way to support individual families instead of large businesses. The great thing about this is that most (but not all) of the time, local food from farms is healthier for you.

Stay hydrated with fruit infused water

Stay Hydrated

An obvious summer health tip? Maybe. But staying hydrated is one that is too often overlooked. Most of us struggle to drink enough water and stay hydrated throughout the year with the standard recommendation. I think that the standard advice of 8 glasses a day is too little for the average adult chasing around kids.

With temperatures rising, heat and sweat can quickly leave us even more dehydrated. Look after your body, and make sure to drink enough water by carrying around a big water bottle to remind yourself to drink and stay on track.

Not a fan of plain water? Spruce it up by adding some fruit or chilled infused teas (decaffeinated) to keep your water intake up. There are other fun ways to increase your hydration, such as making homemade popsicles (less sugar - more fresh fruit), eating fresh watermelon, and trying out your hand in juice making.

There are many fun things to do this summer, but make sure you are taking care of yourself and your health while on the go!

By following these tips, you can improve your health this summer and enjoy all that the season has to offer.
