My Shopping Haul at New York and Company in St. Augustine, Florida

Hey Yall!  I hope you all had a wonderful 3-Day Weekend!  How did you spend your MLK weekend?  For us, we used the time to hunker down and relax, especially with it being so gosh darn cold outside.  Freezing to the point of it hurting our skin.

Winter didn't come to play this season; it gave us a break last year with warmer than average temperatures.  But, now the whole east coast is experiencing a deep freeze.

Last week, I blogged about our freezing trip to St. Augustine, Florida, and I wanted to mention my shopping haul at New York and Company while there.

St. Augustine has plenty of different shops to choose from, like mom and pops shops, and even my favorite, outlet stores.

About a couple of freeway exits away from my hotel there were Premium Outlet Stores with some of my favorite retailers and department stores.  I had choices of shopping at the indoor outlet mall, or across the freeway an outdoor one.  No brainer we chose the indoor one to keep warm and have a more enjoyable shopping experience, plus my favorite clothing store New York and Company is in the indoor mall.

As I mentioned several times on this blog, the best time to shop in retail stores is right after Christmas and New Years because they bottom out their prices to get rid of holiday merchandise to make room for spring collections.

Check out what I purchased below and let me know what's your favorite (Since outfits are from New York and Company's Outlet store, you may not be able to find these looks online).

Malls Are Becoming the Thing of the Past and I'm Not Happy About It

I like to mention about this indoor outlet mall in St. Augustine; it felt deserted!  Like, barely anyone was there, and so many vacant stores.

Almost every store had closeout/closing sale flyers hanging on their windows.  It had me curious and asking store employees if the mall is in danger of shutting down, but they seemed clueless about it.

Sad to see the world we're living in today.  Yes, technology makes things more comfortable and convenient, but look how things are turning out, more people are losing jobs, people do not know how to communicate and socialize with others.  We are so sunken into our electronics that it's taking over our lives, and not in a good way.  Like they say, too much of a good thing can be bad for you.  What are your thoughts on this?

Me, on the other hand, I enjoy the experience of malls.  I like to see and touch the products I'm interested in buying.  I am a people-person that enjoys socializing.  At my local mall, some employees know my girls and me since we're regular shoppers, and we get into conversations with each other as if we knew each other for years.  That's what I call excellent customer service, and making customers want to return again and again.  You can't get that from shopping online.

But anyway, the way stores are closing at a fast rate, malls and brick and mortar stores will be obsolete within five years.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy shopping online too, but prefer going to a physical store.

New Year, New Hairdo.  I Cut My Hair...Again!

Did you see my hairstyle in these pictures?  Yes, my hair stylist chopped quite a bit off.  I always have those moments that I get tired of my hair and have my stylist whip out the scissors.  I keep telling myself I would grow my hair long again like it was back in grade school, but dealing with two girls that have a lot of hair makes me not want to deal with my own.

Also, no, I did not get a relaxer, just a silk press.  But I was tempted though.  This whole having natural hair is becoming too much for me.  A wash and go doesn't work for my hair, only a twist-out, and a twist-out takes a lot of work to master it.  But, the chemicals in relaxers is what makes me stay away.

So, what was your favorite from my picks from New York and Company?  Also, what are your thoughts about malls becoming obsolete?

  2. It's literally been years since I went to an outlet mall! They had a small one here in NC that went out of business, and I cleaned up on some deals. But they have one similar to what you visited in Florida that's still going strong from what I hear. Like you, whenever I can, it's nice to touch the items and try things on in the store. Your hair always looks gorgeous! I'm a fan of purple, so the purple dress and purple blouse are my faves and look very flattering and fun! Snow coming here in the AM, so I'm a little excited, but it promises to be here for just a day. Happy Tuesday! Hugs...RO

    1. Thanks RO! There several malls out here in Georgia that looks like they are on the verge of closing. But, if I need something and stores are having great deals I'm all for stopping in.

I'm going to start wearing purple more since this year's color is Violet, plus I feel it looks good on me and something different than all the grays, blues, and blacks I always wear.

We got snow here last night and it froze all up. So, we'll be hunkering down at home for a couple of days. Hopefully, all the ice and snow will be all melted by Friday.

      Stay warm my friend!

    1. Hey there! This sweat shirt dress is so comfy and can be worn with or without leggings. I wore it with leggings yesterday and outfit still looked good. I couldn't find the dress on NY & Company's website since it's from their outlet store. Regular stores and online carry different styles than NY & Co outlet stores.

I love mall shopping. Every summer, my daughter and I do a 'Mall Crawl'. That's basically where we go to a lot of malls each weekend. Having a teenager makes it easy to do it. Online shopping has picked up but I still like trying on clothes and getting a feel of the texture and fabrics of clothes. By the way, I absolutely LOVE New York and Company.

  5. Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I went to a mall. Here it is just too crowded and after the shooting in our local mall a few years ago I try to avoid it as much as possible. I love online shopping, plus since my kids are still young, it's easier to just do my shopping in peace when they're sleep at night lol.

I am loving your pick though, look one is everything! That dress is so cute and it looks so comfy. Also, I am loving the new do. I feel you on the natural bit though. I'm going on two years and I so want to just put in a relaxer. It takes so long to wash, untangle, and dry my hair and I'm to the point where I now have my stylist come 1-2 times per month to do it for me and finish it off with a silk wrap lol.

  6. As much as I love Amazon, they are killing our communities. Malls are the center of a lot of communities, a gathering place and they are slowly dying. Sad state. I love the sweatshirt dress and the new hair!
