Chill Out, Atlanta: Beat the Heat with Indoor Activities around the City via www.productreviewmom.com

School’s out, fun is in – and Atlanta-based family-friendly destinations have an endless wave of activities on the horizon to keep little ones entertained throughout the season. Adventure-seekers are invited to beat the blazing heat by exploring the new feature exhibit at Children’s Museum of Atlanta, singing along to the Broadway in Atlanta’s presentation of musical sensation MAMMA MIA!, celebrating Christmas in July at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta or participating in countless other attractions happening around the metro-area. These sun-sational events are designed to entertain and keep families feeling refreshed all summer long!

Summer Comedy Nights at Aurora Theatre in downtown Lawrenceville are a sure fire way to beat summer blues. Throughout the sizzling summer, local and well-known comedians will take the stage to entertain guests with eccentric tales, witty one-liners and an open bar (without the standard two-drink minimum!). Aurora Theatre, Gwinnett’s only professional theatre, will also present The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The classic story of the disfigured bell-ringer who falls in love with an enchanting gypsy is set to appear on the mainstage from Thursday, July 20 through Sunday, August 27, in partnership with Theatrical Outfit.

Parents trying to keep their children from being too sun-kissed will enjoy the multi-sensory explorations, reading club, holiday celebrations and more taking place at Children’s Museum of Atlanta:

  • The national touring exhibit The Blue Man Group – Making Waves is splashing into the city starting Saturday, June 10 through Monday, September 4 to show kids the thrilling way to create music with found-objects, as well as how sound and art are brought together in the internationally renowned group’s performances.

  • Kids can show devoted dads, granddads or uncles appreciation this Father’s Day by celebrating at Children’s Museum of Atlanta! Start the weekend by snapping a picture with dad at the Father’s Day photobooth on Saturday, June 17. The weekend activities continue with the Daddy Olympics, special story time and more. On Sunday, June 18, dads will receive FREE admission when they stop by the visitor’s services desk and say, “I’m a proud dad!”

  • Families can celebrate Independence Day with a parade, “fireworks,” singing and more! Runners from the 2017 Peachtree Road Race with plans to visit the museum are encouraged to wear their race participation shirt to receive half-price admission (with purchase of one full-priced admission) on Tuesday, July 4!

  • Little ones can get ready to go back to class with Ready, Set School! From Monday, July 24 – Friday, July 28 kids will get the opportunity to create “back to school” arts and crafts in the art studio and Build It! Lab, make new friends during circle time, learn popular songs and participate in interactive story time to prepare for the first day of school!

Families in search of a way to relax and get out of the sweltering summer heat can reserve a night out on the town to watch the Broadway hit MAMMA MIA! The eighth longest running show in Broadway history and one of only five musicals to have run for more than ten years on the Broadway stage will return to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, June 13-18 for a final farewell tour. Sing along to everyone’s favorite ABBA hits such as “Dancing Queen” “S.O.S.,” “Take a Chance on Me” and more melodies that inspired the phenomenal storyline. The performance schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, June 13 – Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, June 17 at 2 p.m., 8 p.m.
Sunday, June 18 at 1 p.m., 6:30 p.m.

Step right up! The Center for Puppetry Arts is kicking off the 2017-2018 season with Cinderella Della Circus from Tuesday, June 20 through Sunday, July 23! Created by the Center’s artistic ringmaster Jon Ludwig, the show creates high-flying summer entertainment using marionette, rod and shadow puppetry for ages 4 and up.

Poolside readers can breeze over to Books-A-Million for exhilarating adventures, romantic love stories and more this summer. Bookworms are invited to participate in the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge now through Labor Day Weekend. Kids and teens willing to take on the task are required to read any four books from the designated list and return their completed reading journal with their parents’ signature to their local Books-A-Million.

Ignite the holiday spirit early this year with LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta’s annual Christmas in July charity toy drive. During the entire month of July, families are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped and unopened toys on their visit to Buckhead’s premier attraction to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! Kids who bring a generous donation will receive a Kids Go Free voucher, valid with the purchase of an adult ticket.
