6 Ways to Protect Your Money While Traveling

6 Ways to Protect Your Money While Traveling via www.productreviewmom.com

Being in an unfamiliar place can make you uncomfortable enough. The extra worry about making sure you always have your credit cards, debit cards, and purses/wallets can be a bit much. If you use some of these tips, you will be able to enjoy yourself and not worry so much about your money.

Inform your Bank about Travel Plans

Notifying your banking institutions that you are traveling is good thing to do. Some banks automatically freeze cards when activity is noticed in a different location. You should also notify PayPal if you use a PayPal debit card and your credit card companies as well.

Use Hotel Safes

If you choose to take cash with you, or even credit cards, keep them in a hotel safe. Only take with you what you need when leaving your hotel room. If you do lose something while you’re out, like a purse or wallet, you still have a method of funding at the hotel.

Check Online Banking History Daily

Even if you are keeping your bankcard in your possession, fraudulent activity can still happen. Keep all of your receipts and compare it to your online banking statement daily. This will help you keep track of your spending and make sure that your account is safe.

Consider Purchasing Gift Cards

If you don’t want to use your credit or debit cards at all while on vacation, you can purchase gift cards with major credit card company logos on them. These are available in Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Keep cash in a hotel room safe for use for purchases where a gift card may not be accepted, although most locations recognize these gift cards as credit cards.

Men: Carry your Wallet in your Front Pocket

It is common for pick-pocketers to go right for your back pocket to steal your wallet. Keep your wallet in your front pocket instead. It is less noticeable and you would be able to feel someone’s hand in your front pocket before the back pocket. This is an ideal option when you are in crowded venues.

Tip: Purchase a scan-safe wallet to prevent credit card skimmers from obtaining information to steal your identity and drain your finances.

Women: Wear your Purse Cross-Body

If you do not carry a wallet by itself, take along a purse with a longer strap so you can wear it cross-body. Keep the enclosure toward your body rather than toward a crowd of people. The cross-body purse should also be smaller than your everyday purse to carry only what you will need with you.

Whenever possible, put what you will need in your pockets and don’t use a purse at all when going to crowded venues or entertainment places.

It is a good idea to have a budget and monitor that budget daily while traveling. It is also a good idea to have an emergency source of funds should you experience an emergency or have a little more fun than planned and blow the budget. Carry as little cash as possible because losing cash is irreplaceable.
