Have you always wanted to run a marathon but haven’t worked out in years? Are your doctors and family members concerned about your weight because of your high blood pressure, diabetes or other health issues? Maybe, you are just fed up with weight and are ready to do something about it. Why not start a run/walk program to improve your health?

I have developed a running program for those who fit the description above. This is a running program that extends 30 weeks to get you up to 20 minutes of running; it is that simple. The first week starts off with 20 minutes of walking with 4 sets of 30 seconds runs. This is all you do the first week, but you must be committed to working out four days a week. If you haven’t worked out in years, you might want to start with a walking program for a few weeks and then incorporate my running program for beginners.

Compared to other run/walk programs out there where most have you running a minute at a time, very fast, my program emphasizes sustainability. I have found that quite of few people find the traditional technique too aggressive. They need a slower and gentler program that i comparatively as effective as any running programs out there.

One great thing about my workout, if you find the progress pace too slow, you can accelerate it through a running plan change every two workouts. This would get you running for 20 minutes in 15 weeks. You have to listen to your body and figure out what you can handle.

Running is ranked one of the best cardiovascular exercises you can do. Most scientists rank cross country skiing to be best aerobic exercise because of the total fitness aspect of working both the lower and the upper parts of the body. Running comes in second. Both activities have their pro and cons but if you don’t have any major joint problems, running is an inexpensive activity; all you need are a good pair of running shoes.

Running shoes are sold at most athletic stores but if you are new to the sport, you should read! “Find The Right Running Shoe” before buying your shoes. I never purchase full price on my shoes, I usually buy them on sale. Need a special running shoe? Make sure you checkout many pairs and buy the one you can afford.
