When you ask most people for their new year’s resolution, it will often be centered on health and fitness. Losing weight and staying in shape are the traditional answers for any brand new resolution. Most gyms see a major spike in membership, but it tends to decline around February. There are other excellent things to dedicate yourself to for the New Year, rather than just getting into shape. If you are interested in making a new resolution that will spark changes in your life, here are some better resolutions to make for this upcoming New Year. 

Finding better life balance

One of the issues that parents and those with families have is that they often feel that there are not enough hours in the day. The best resolution for those who often feel rushed and frazzled to make is to strike more balance in their lives. Better scheduling of all work and play activities will help you to feel a lot less rushed, which in turn will make you less stressed out. Instead of working too much or dedicating too much time to household errands and chores, make a resolution to secure a good balance that will keep you happy. 

Take more risks

“Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life” is a quote by the author Robin S. Sharma. Sharma is a self-help coach that is known to work with major clients and companies. Make it a point to take more risks in your life, including small ones to spark more growth that is personal. Small risks, such as introducing yourself to business contacts can help you to make large changes over the course of the year. After a few months of taking one small risk per week, you may find yourself in a better situation 365 days later. 

Do what makes you happy

Selfishness is something that most people try to avoid; however, being just a little more selfish may help your overall happiness. Make a New Year’s Eve resolution to do one thing that makes you happy per day. Doing something for yourself, even if it is a small thing like buying a candy bar or taking a solo walk can help to increase your overall happiness immensely. By increasing your own happiness, you will positively affect those around you, including your spouse, children, friends, and coworkers. 

Stop worrying

Many New Year’s Eve resolutions are created due to fear or worry. If you notice that you make certain decisions out of worry, consider making a resolution to worry less. Worrying does nothing to improve a situation, yet it always increases stress. Stress can do bad things internally, such as create health and fitness issues. Stress also affects your mental health and personal relationships. Do everything that you can to take care of all situations that come your way, but make it a point not to worry or stress about everything working out. Somehow, everything seems to work itself out anyway.

  1. I am definitely going to take more time for myself this year. I'm learning to let go of the guilt I have every time I do something just for me. When I constantly give to others and not myself I feel extra drained. I have a ton of books that I've bought but never took the time to sit down and read so that's my New Year's resolution. To get back to my love of reading.
