Some of you may know this but my family and I have moved....no not out of Georgia or Metro Atlanta area, but we did move into a bigger home.
I'm the type that moves every 2 years or so because I either get tired of where I'm living or the area I'm living in is going downhill. My last home was just too small for us because we were living in a small apartment and it seems like the apartment complex was moving in just about anyone and crime was starting to happen.
I've been living in apartment communities since I was 19 years old and with 2 growing daughters it was time for us to start upgrading to living in a house.
On Craigslist.org, I found a reasonably priced townhome for rent near my daughter’s school and I immediately responded to the ad. The landlord told me that he currently has tenants living in the unit but I could stop by and preview it. My family and I had a chance to look inside the home while the old tenants were still living inside and I instantly fell in love with it, maybe because the tenants had nice furnishings like home decor you would find in Pottery Barn. I quickly signed the lease...big mistake!
My landlord did inform me he was not going to paint the walls and it would be our responsibility but he would make sure the unit would be clean before our move in. So....to make a long story short, once I got the keys to the townhome the walls were covered with holes due to pictures that were hanging all over the walls from the previous tenants, carpets wasn't cleaned, bathrooms and rooms were hardly cleaned either! Since I was stuck since I have already signed the lease I had to come out of my own pocket to paint the walls which cost me over a $1,000, pretty much almost as much as I pay in rent there. Mr. M and I had to clean the place ourselves too! Due to the home not being clean the landlord gave use a $150 discount in which I feel is not enough. Also, we had to buy new blinds for the home too because some windows didn't have them and some were broken. Seriously...I was beyond pissed!
I'm tellin' ya, this was one of the most expensive moves to date! Paying a deposit, first months rent, movers, paint and Mr. M's uncle who painted for us, and I had to buy new furniture too! Due to this hectic and expensive move left me very stressed, didn't even want to blog anymore, and very tired.
But this situation is a lesson learned; wait until the tenants move out before you sign anything so I can get a good look at the condition of the home.
Well now since I've been living there the past two weeks I have been really enjoying my new place, spacious and I now have a quiet place to relax and blog. I'm in a family friendly neighborhood that is safe and quiet as well.
I'm still not finished decorating so
I'll be making trips to Target, Home Goods, Walmart, and Ikea during my spare
time. I won't be buying too much because we don't really have visitors
anyway and I'm not the type that likes a whole lot of stuff in my home which
means I won't have a lot of stuff to clean up.
Right now, I'm packing....packing for my next adventure.....adventure to MIAMI!!!!!!! This has
been on my travel bucket list for some time now and I'm happy to finally be
able to mark it off my list as done! Make sure to follow me on Instagram
this weekend and sorry you won't be seeing my girls in the pictures because this will be an adult getaway
that Mr. M and I desperately need after this crazy move.
OMG!! Sounds like a moving nightmare! I'm glad you guys are settling in. Have fun in Miami! I loved living there when I did. Make sure to check out the obvious: south beach. The art deco style and just the people watching in so fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl! I was hoping to get a hotel on South Beach but my wallet told me no. LOL! But I will for sure visit there and check it out. The trip is short so I got to cram a lot in a little amount of time.
DeleteWow, what a crazy adventure, thankfully I never had to deal with that, although I did rent a basement apartment in NY in the 80's which was a lot of drama, fortunately for the owner, blogs weren't invented! Enjoy your trip to Miami, we may be heading to Belize this summer.
ReplyDeleteLOL about blogs not being invented in the 80's. Oh there was more issues I didn't write on the post like cleaning someone else hair and soap scum in the showers, disgusting!!!!! But it is all over now and I can't dwell on it but I'll for sure never forget about it.
DeleteWow Belize, that will be a incredible trip! Make sure if you go sis to blog about it! I want to read what it is like there.
Antionette, I hope you don't mind my 2 cents, my last roommate went to Belize two years ago and LOVED it. The only thing was she woke up one night and found a 2 foot lizard on the ceiling!! That was the only part of the trip I wasn't jealous of! lol
DeleteOMG YIKES! I would've had a heart attack Jen!
DeleteLou I've been in my house for almost 14 years and the thought of moving gives me a headache! LOL And what a shi**y landlord! I mean I'd at least comp you more for your time, sweat and money. And Im so happy you are finally all moved in and I can't wait to see all your fun pics in Miami!
ReplyDeleteMoving is a headache, period! I don't know how I go through it. I use that time like if I'm Spring cleaning and get rid of stuff and start with something new. But it is getting exhausting though. Yeah, the landlord was trying to save his coins but geez he could at least clean like he said! I had to clean out my apartment or they would've charged me, so just imagine cleaning two places! I was drained mentally and physically.
DeleteBut glad that is all over! Yep girl you'll be seeing my Miami pics soon!
Yay to moving. Once the dust has settled I am sure things will be great. I love townhomes I have always wanted one too. Less maintenance but you still get that home feeling. Have a safe trip
ReplyDeleteTownhomes are great! Only thing is you're attach to someone next to you but good thing I'm on the end so I'm only attached to one home and it's better than apartments that's for sure.
DeleteThanks girl!
I'm happy you got to move into a bigger home, but sorry to hear about the work you guys have had to do. It isn't fair. I'm currently looking for a more peaceful place. Mostly due to extremely loud neighbors who fight and party multiple times per week (they are doing both right now sigh lol) . I will keep your advice in mind because I am definitely guilty of making decisions one the spot due to excitement.
ReplyDeleteI hate loud neighbors, especially the ones that parties all the time. I had to deal with that before.
DeleteYeah I'm quick to making decisions instead of waiting things out. Good luck on your search Amby!
