At Home Remedies to Help You Fight Your Cold

At Home Remedies to Help You Fight Your Cold via www.productreviewmom.com

After my trip to New Orleans I was hit with a terrible cold, I may even had the flu.  I'm the type that unless I'm dying I will not go to the doctor- I know that is not good.

I only get sick about twice a year and when I get sick, I get hit hard!  Georgia has been having serious cases of the flu and before winter break there was a county that shut schools completely down due to everyone catching the flu, scary!

My sickness lingered for several weeks and I wanted my cold to be gone before Christmas and my annual vacation with my family so I asked my Instagram buddies for their help of at home remedies.

Here are some remedies they shared with me:

I had this drink with rum at SeaWorld and I must say it really did soothe my throat because I still had a bad cough while I was on vacation in Orlando for the New Years but after drinking Hot Toddy my cough went away completely the next day.

  • Karima Renee The Curvy Girl Stylist on Instagram: Mucinex, oil of oregano, cold season tea by Yogi, and Echenacia and vitamin C "juice" from Trader Joes.  With the oil of oregano, put 3 drops under your tongue for 1-2 times a day.  It will burn/ tingle at first but either drink orange juice or eat a banana afterwards.

  • Bonnie Bowes from MomsLifeSavers:  She uses Listerine (rinse her mouth out several times a day) and a Nettie pot to clear her sinus.  Make sure to have a humidifier going at night and drink lots of water.

  • Sonya from SavingEverydaywithSonyaK:  Try a really good probiotic.  The Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods have a good selection.  The good bacteria will help get rid of the bad bacteria.  Also, try cutting back on sugar it feeds the bad bacteria.

These ladies are so sweet to share with me their cold home remedies, I hope you all find them useful too!

  1. These are all great ideas! I've tried a few of them (the neti pot, mucinex) but it's good to have an entire arsenal of new things to try. I haven't been sick yet, so I'm crossing my fingers I'm spared this year!

  5. Oil of oregano is a definite. Taste horrible but it works.
As does garlic and olive oil. Cook garlic in olive oil and take a teaspoon every few hours. Works magic for coughs. And yes to the hot toddy.

  6. I've been recommended a good probiotic too. They say it's just a great thing to add to your daily routine, helping with fighting colds and a whole bunch of other stuff.

I had so much fun at the #ProductReviewParty over the weekend! I had forgotten to use the hashtag, though. I'll be better at that next time. =0)

    1. No problem Kim, you don't have to put the hashtag if you don't want to.

  7. The netti pot is good to clear out your sinuses, but it's a little scary to use. The water goes in one side of your nose and comes out the other side of your nose. I've been wanting to try more essential oils and I wish I had had some when my family recently had the flu.
Thanks for including my remedy :)

  8. I definitely agree on the listerine, and teeth brushing, seems like having a cleaner mouth would help the body heal, and probably help prevent the spread of the cold!
