Memorial Day Food and Drinks Ideas

Memorial Day, the remembrance of the soldiers who died while serving United States Armed Forces, and also it is the kick start of the Summer season.


How will you be celebrating this Memorial Day weekend?  Attending parades?  Having a cookout with friends and family?


If you're having a cookout, I have some drinks and food ideas for you that you'll enjoy.


Do you love drinking cocktails?  Here are a couple of refreshing cocktail recipes from Sweet Hospitality Group.

2 oz Vodka
1 oz St Germain Liqueur
2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
2 oz Honey-Thyme Syrup*
Seltzer

  • Fill a 16oz glass with ice

  • Add all ingredients

  • Stir or flip to mix
**HONEY-THYME SYRUP
(1 quart batch)
½ bunch Fresh Thyme
2 cups Boiling Water (divided)
2 cups Honey

  • Bruise THYME and steep in 1 ½ cups BOILING WATER for 30 minutes

  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove THYME

  • Add HONEY and additional ½ cup BOILING WATER and mix well until completely dissolved.

  • Let stand at room temperature until cooled then pour into storage/serving container.

2 Lime Wedges


4 Blackberries (plus additional for garnish)


2 Mint Sprigs (plus additional for garnish)


¾ oz Simple Syrup (or more to taste)


1.5 oz Light Rum


.5 oz Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur


3 drops Brooklyn Hemispherical Strawberry Bitters


Seltzer



  • Place lime, blackberries, mint and simple syrup in a mixing glass and muddle well

  • Fill with ice and add rum, ginger liqueur and bitters

  • Shake well and strain into a 10 oz rocks glass filled with ice

  • Top with seltzer and garnish with blackberries and a mint sprig

  3. Hmmm...I need to get some Honey Thyme Syrup...that sounds really tasty! As usual, we will BBQ and most likely do it with my parents on Sunday. It's kinda gloomy today and the forecast isn't as nice I would like it to be...

  6. We have a graduation party to go to tomorrow, but my husband has had to work other than that. I've just been enjoying the nice weather with my kids.

  7. Have fun celebrating Memorial Day Louida and those list are great too. We don't have Memorial Day here or maybe there is but I just don't know what is the equivalent here but when there are Holidays like that people usually take a rest here because it is the only day they can relax from work.
