Stuck at Home So I Decided to Start Juicing

Here we go again....stuck at home due to an epic ice storm in Atlanta!  I was in a ice storm 3 weeks ago and now I'm in another that's even worst than the first.  BLAH!

All I've been doing is cleaning, cooking, breaking up my daughter's fights, watching movies, and sleeping and then the cycle repeats.  This is getting old fast!  I will say that I'm fortunate to be at home with power because a lot of people has lost their power due to falling trees and ice freezing electrical wires.  So I really can't complain but this cabin fever is killing me!

Last night I decided to get back into juicing.  I fell off the bandwagon because I've been so busy doing other things that juicing always passes my mind.  Plus it's expensive to keep doing too.

How I got started juicing is after watching the John Cross's documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" which opened my eyes at the stuff I ate everyday. My boyfriend went out the next day after watching the movie and bought a juicer and we both did the 3 Day Weekend Juice Cleanse to clean out the bad foods in our bodies and boy did our energy levels went through the roof!  I just wish stores would make produce more affordable instead of unhealthy foods.

I like to add a plastic bag in juicer's storage bin so I can throw away the pulp with less mess to clean

When it comes to juicing, I don't really follow any recipes, I just add what ever I want.  Here is what I used last night in my juice:
  • 2 Whole Apples
  • 1 Whole Cucumber
  • 3 Mandarins
  • 3 Kale Leaves
  • 1 Ginger Root
This makes about 25 oz of juice.

The juice came out really good and had a sweet apple/mandarin taste to it.  You do not taste the kale at all. The ginger does give the juice a bit of a spicy kick to it but I wanted that because I've been having nasal congestion and ginger can help clear it up naturally.

I heard with the left over pulp people use it in their baking goods, have you done this before?

I hate for all that pulp to just go to waste.

Welp looks like I'll go back to my hibernation.  Stay warm everyone!

  1. I just got a juicer - and am loving it. I overdosed on beets the first time around - maybe I'll try your "recipe"!

    1. LOL...I had overdosed on beets the first time too!

  2. I do smoothies but have never juiced. Though here in CA I have great access to produce all the time!

    1. You should try it out Megan, juicing is really good!

  3. You are a genius! I have been juicing for several years and never thought to put a plastic bag in the pulp been! I as well have never made anything out of the pulp but I always say I'm going to!

    1. Yeah I started hating cleaning out the bin and just decided to add grocery bags in it. Such a better way to clean up!

  4. I agree! I wish stores would make produce healthier than the junk!
